Supporting Our Heroes at the 8th Annual HAVA/ACADEMI Family Day
June 26, 2019

HAVA

HAVA/ACADEMI

At Constellis, our strong ties to veterans of the United States military are constantly on our minds. Each year as we host the much-anticipated HAVA/ACADEMI Family Day at our ACADEMI training center in Moyock, NC, we honor those who have returned from their time in the service and their families.

Family Day brings together hundreds of disabled veterans, their families and volunteers for a day of camaraderie, shooting, good food, activities for the kids and more. Our ongoing commitment to strengthening this tightknit community by dedicating our time and talents to serve our veterans is a source of pride and we’re glad to do it. Our partnership with HAVA is just one way we are able to help our heroes in their journey to reintegrate into civilian life.

Each year, we reunite with many repeat attendees while welcoming new faces to the community. This event means a lot to us, and more importantly, it means a lot to those who attend. Check out what a few military (and Family Day) veterans had to say about this year’s event:

Jen Boyd

Jen Boyd, who spent 11.5 years in the United States Marine Corps, is a four year repeat attendee who loves spending time with her service dog, Singer. “HAVA/ ACADEMI Family Day takes me back to the Marine Corps. For several years in a row, we’ve been organized in the same blue team at the event,” said Boyd. “We all like being together.”

Laurie Wood

Laurie Wood served in the United States Navy for 18 years and attended her third HAVA/ACADEMI Family Day this year. Laurie said, “Awesome program. I enjoy coming out to shoot again. It’s a huge difference to have instructors who teach how to adapt to my physical need. There’s even instructors with physical limitations, and they are more in tuned and understand.”

Laurie Wood

Mike Lake served 16 years in the United States Coast Guard and has participated in Family Day for six years. Mike said, “I like seeing all the veterans together and I appreciate the support from ACADEMI. It’s a fun day, good time and nice family event.”

Thank you to all who came out for this special day. It has been our privilege to host this event for eight years running.

(A special thank you to photographer Mark Fingar, who volunteered his time and spent the day with us capturing the spirit of the event.)
