Job Description

Position Summary

 

Position is located in Blackstone, VA. Firefighter must be prepared and able to perform a full range of emergency response duties including but not limited to fire.  suppression, emergency medical care, hazardous material control and containment, specialized rescue and natural disaster response. 

 

 

Responsibilities

 

• Responsible for ensuring that fire apparatuses and equipment are operational, including cleaning and inspecting equipment and apparatus after returning from a fire
• Respond to emergency calls while stationed with a pre-positioned team are pre-positioned at the FASTC Facility
• Attend mandatory training iterations to provide immediate service to any personnel in case of vehicle accidents or fires started through training operations
• Required to complete daily preventative maintenance on all equipment and must be able to complete daily paperwork as required for inspections (inspections are inclusive of but not limited to vehicle inspections, specific equipment inspections including various emergency equipment such as hydraulic spreaders and cutters, rams, hoses, and other assorted equipment, SCBA equipment including tanks and masks, PPE and hand tools)
• Responsible for ensuring that fire apparatuses and equipment are operational, including cleaning and inspecting equipment and apparatus after returning from a fire
• Must participate in training as required by the contract and maintain state and NFPA required certifications/qualifications
• Other duties as assigned

 

 

Qualifications (Education/Experience/Certifications)

 

• Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent and DOD, IFSAC, or ProBoard Fire Fighter I or Fire Fighter II, and HazMat Awareness and Operations
• Must hold a valid and current Virginia EMT certification
• Must hold a valid and current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certification (CPR) through either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Must hold a valid and current Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification
• Must maintain state mandated continuing education requirements, including current American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) .
• Must maintain an unrestricted driver’s license issued in the United States with a driving record consistent with company policy

 

 

Working Conditions

 

• Work Schedule is Mon – Friday, normally 6am – 5pm. Some late night operations may be required at request of customer
• Work is located on Fort Pickett Army base where you will spend a majority of your day in a fire truck

 

Physical Requirements

 

• Work is is based out of Blackstone, Virginia
• Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday
• Must be able to move objects 20-50 lbs. short distances, perform duties requiring pulling 40lbs. or more such as removing the fire hose from apparatus and starting power equipment, and frequently lift objects weighing 50-100lbs such as extrication equipment
