Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY 

 

Responsible for overseeing the assigned Supervisors, Handlers, Canines, and Accounts to ensure cargo screenings operations are in compliance with TSA and commercial rules and regulations. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide supervision and training to assigned Supervisor’s Handler’s and Canine’s related to operations 
  • Perform canine training, audits and administrative deliverables as required for assigned Canine Teams 
  • Manage, supervise, and coordinate post assignments and schedules for canine handlers, to include vacation relief that ensure required coverage 
  • Provide all facets of management for assigned Supervisor’s and Handlers 
  • Schedule and conduct reoccurring train teams for recertification’s and remedial, sustainment, and advancement training 
  • Participate in CCSP related training to search cargo and identify explosive threats 
  • Perform temporary certified Handler duties while commanding a trained explosive working dog as required for the program 
  • Responsible for maintaining training records, care, and maintenance of assigned certified canine 
  • Develop and follow established operational and training protocols in accordance with statements of work and standard operating procedures 
  • Arrange operational exercises in order to replicate real life operational scenarios and enable canines to work independently in high population density environments with people moving to and from mass transit environments 
  • Transport, secure, and account for canine training aids, equipment, company vehicles, canine trailers, company assets, and resources 
  • Responsible for supervision of assigned operational staff throughout North America 
  • Communicate within external and internal stakeholders and pro-actively have solutions for tasks  
  • Must maintain all job-related certifications and required security clearances 
  • Must be willing to operate company vehicle  
  • Travel of up to 50%+ to contract locations Nationwide 
  • Must work flexible shifts, which may include a combination of hours and locations throughout a 24hr period 7 days a week within your assigned area of operation 
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • U.S. Citizenship is required 
  • Minimum of five years of experience training and managing canines and teams in explosive detection preferred
  • Three years of documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational environment preferred 
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred 
  • Must be able to obtain and hold an approved Known Traveler Number (KTN) within four to six weeks of employment required 
  • Must have adequate transportation to transport assigned Canine and Crate (inside the vehicle) to/from assigned work location; transportation must have operational climate control 
  • Must be able to pass the applicable Contract Testing and Certifications for the program within four to six weeks of employment; candidate must maintain the certification requirements 
  • Demonstrated experience in solving unique training problems with detection dogs and team and knowledgeable of how to evaluate and apply canine training principles, conditioning and standards 
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and a clear driving record for the last three years; must also be maintained during tenure of employment 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion 
  • Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process 
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

WORKING CONDITIONS 

 

Work conditions can vary from a busy training environment to field work, both subject to frequent interruptions. Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Work hours will be dictated by the customers agreed upon schedule. Nights, weekends, and holiday hours will be required, and the work schedule will vary. Travel may also be required. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

 

Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 100 lbs. Requires standing for long periods of time in all weather conditions. Requires intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling. Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
