Fleet Maintenance Supervisor (West Los Angeles)

POSITION SUMMARY 

 

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor II supervises large automotive/equipment repair shop(s).  

 

Pay Range: $30.00 – $40.00 per hour 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Plan, organize, assign and direct the work activities of subordinate staff to realize the unit’s work goals and to ensure the consistent application of unit and/or technical policies, procedures and guidelines 
  • Confer with and counsel subordinate staff to exchange information and/or explain work policies, procedures and guidelines 
  • Identify work-related problems, problem characteristics, impact and formulate possible solutions 
  • Review and compare work performance and/or products of subordinate staff with established standards to determine for recommendation to agency management, appropriate personnel actions such as promotions, disciplinary actions, status changes, separations and grievance dispositions 
  • Train subordinate staff in work principles, policies and/or procedures to maintain and/or improve the production levels of employees in accordance with established work performance standards 
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and serves as contact for client departments 
  • Coordinate work performed by outside vendors 
  • Assist in managing vehicle replacement program 
  • Prepare bid specifications for new equipment 
  • Contact vendors regarding equipment purchases; order parts, supplies and equipment  
  • Maintain computer and manual records for equipment specifications, repairs and other services 
  • Advise subordinates on complex repairs and projects 
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required  
  • Vocational/Technical training in automotive repair with 5 years of related experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities 
  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (A, B or C with specific endorsements may be required)  
  • ASE Master Automotive Technician and/or Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certifications may be required 
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite  
  • B or C with specific endorsements may be required)  
  • May require possession of one or more ASE Certifications  
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization   
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion 
  • Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process 
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

WORKING CONDITIONS 

 

Work is typically based in a busy service center/maintenance garage environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by established Company Safety Standards. Normal work hours are Monday-Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, however some extended or weekend hours may also be required.  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

 

May be required to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 75 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday.    

Boat Tech (Marina Del Rey, CA)

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Boat Technician works independently at the Marina del Rey dock maintaining a fleet of patrol boats and supporting units. The scope of boat repairs includes engine replacements, troubleshooting, repairing components and replacement as needed, recommends upgrades, and conducts operational tests.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cleaning, repairing and maintaining all parts of the boat or vessel
  • Reading through repair and installation orders to determine the material, time, and equipment required
  • Scraping away old paint, barnacles and debris from vessels
  • Removing and replacing rotted or rusted sections of the vessel
  • Constructing replacement parts using drawings, saws and various hand and power tools
  • Testing engines, propellers, steering and navigational equipment
  • Mixing and applying paint, wax and gel coats
  • Liaising and consulting with the supervisor and other relevant professionals and vendors
  • Submits daily report work-log and parts inventory report
  • Might be required to perform maintenance on other equipment such as trucks, trailers, quads and others
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Driver’s CA License
  • Vocational/Technical training in marine repair with 3 years of work-related experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Practical experience with tools and equipment used in marine maintenance
  • Must have valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion
  • Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by established Company Safety Standards. Normal work hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm however, some extended or weekend hours may also be required.

May be required to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 100 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday. Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
