POSITION OVERVIEW:
Part Time Firefighter
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Respond to and mitigate emergency incidents including, but not limited to, structural fires, aircraft accidents and/or fires, medical emergencies, automobile accidents, hazardous materials releases and terrorist related emergencies, mutual aid requests and weather-related emergencies.
- Participates in hazard reduction strategies, including risk assessments, safety audits of airside and landside sectors and other airport/customer facilities to enforce policies and fire codes used by the airport/customer, to include the issuance of required permits.
- Inspects fuel storage areas and fuel service vehicles in accordance with airport/customer policy and FAR Part 139.
- Performs runway safety inspections / self-inspections and runway friction monitoring.
- Participate in all required training sessions, including, but not limited to; live fire drills, performance evaluation drills, ongoing skills maintenance, practice and training, annual OSHA drills, EMS major skills and any other mandatory Company training
- Participates in continuing education training courses to ensure FAA competencies are maintained at all times.
- Participates in the on-going technical and practical training within the airport as required.
- Conduct daily and weekly vehicle and equipment inspections as assigned.
- Ensure all vehicle and equipment discrepancies are documented and reported to their immediate supervisor.
- Perform daily maintenance of facilities by cleaning, inspecting, and any other facility maintenance deemed necessary.
- Complete/Provide detailed written Fire/EMS reports and fire station records as required.
- Obtain thorough knowledge of corporate policies and local Fire Standard Operating Guidelines.
- Provide cooperative/supportive interaction with co-workers, supervisors, airport staff, local fire and EMS departments, and other state, local and federal agencies.
- Participates in the Fire Department Public Education program by promoting fire safety through tours of the station, safety briefings, and extinguisher classes.
- Operate and inspects communications equipment.
- Conduct all radio communications in a professional, respectful manner and in accordance with airport and /FAA policies.
- Prepare written documents for internal and external use.
- Review paperwork for accuracy and correct process. Customer Service:
- Provide cooperative/supportive interaction with co-workers, supervisors, airport staff, local fire and EMS departments, and other state, local and federal agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- US Citizen
- Must be at least 18 years old to apply
- Minimum of 3 years prior fire service experience or equivalent workforce experience
- Ability to handle office related material such as, computer equipment, printout paper, notebooks, ledgers, badge printer
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid drivers’ license
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening
- Certifications required:
- FF1/2
- Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations
- ARFF
- EMT-B (At least state level, NREMT preferred)
- ICS 100, 200, 700,800
- Confined space rescue
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work during inclement weather.
- Heavy work: Exerting up to 200 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must have visual and audio acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, machines such as fire equipment and apparatuses.
- May be subject to outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures and weather
- Subject to high noise levels
- Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
- May be required to be fitted for and/or wear a respirator
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, often without breaks, and may be required to climb stairs or ladders and walk up inclines and on uneven terrain.
- Must meet all physical and psychological standards as required by the contract
- Travel may be required

POSITION SUMMARY
Provide Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), Emergency Medical (EMS), Hazmat, services to Grant County International Airport and its surrounding areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to any ARFF, EMS, or Hazmat incident on or near the airport.
- Conduct Runway / safety checks of the airfield at random intervals
- Conduct extinguisher checks
- Check and maintain all emergency vehicles and all rescue tools
- Test and inspect fire hose and hydrants
- Maintain the cleanliness of the fire station and its grounds
- Conduct standbys for tenants and charters
- Conduct fuel farm and fuel hauler inspections
- Conduct Tower and other building inspections
- Conduct wildlife dispersal on the airfield
- Inspect and maintain SCBAs
- Provide security protection to the airport by way of random patrols and gate/fence inspections.
- Control ingress/egress into and/or out of airport property at various times.
- Respond to protective alarm signals or other unusual/suspicious activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The qualified candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, clean driving record, valid Driver’s License, and clean criminal history. Candidates with Hazmat, Firefighter, ARFF, and EMS certifications will be considered before all others.
- One (1) year or more experience working at an airport fire department or three (3) years’ experience working in the fire service as a full-time firefighter.
- Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
- Must be certified as an NFPA 1001 Firefighter II (State or IFSAC)
- Must be certified to the NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials-Operations-Level (State or IFSAC)
- Must be certified as an NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter (State or IFSAC) or completion of an FAA 40-hour approved course with current annual burn.
- Must be certified as Emergency Medical Responder or higher (State or National Registry) or complete within 1 year of hire date.
- Must be certified or able to complete an NFPA 1670, Confined Space-Operations-Level (State or IFSAC) within 1 year of hire date
- Strong teamwork and communication skills. Must be flexible/adaptable to constantly changing environment
- Basic level keyboard and computer skills
- Ability to follow a chain of command
- Ability to use sound judgment in stressful situations and capable of staying alert during period of inactivity
- Certified as EMT (State or National Registry)
- Proficiency in driving ARFF Apparatus and/or Certified as NFPA 1002, Fire Apparatus Driver / Operator ARFF
