Algeria Weekly Report – 10 May 2018

Seventy-seven critical incidents were recorded in Algeria this week, resulting in two deaths. Out of 276 arrests, 177 were immigrants and 37 drug traffickers. Criminal events accounted for 38.96% of the total incident pool, followed by human and social crises with 31.17%.

Algeria summoned Moroccan ambassador last week, amid escalating tensions between the two countries. Morocco accused Algeria of facilitating the transfer of weapons from Iran and the alleged military training provided to Polisario troops by Lebanese group Hezbollah. The Turkish press agency, Anadolu, claims Algeria is pondering the expulsion of Moroccan diplomats. Read more in our Algeria weekly report.
