Kazakhstan (Security threat level – 4): All coronavirus-related entry restrictions for incoming travelers to Kazakhstan have been lifted as of 8 June 2022. Travelers are no longer required to present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative PCR test result for entry into the country. Health officials decided to lift the entry requirements, citing reports of stable coronavirus-related epidemiological situation in the country and elsewhere in the world.

AUSTRALASIA

Fiji (Security threat level – 2): On the afternoon of 8 June 2022, widespread power outages occurred throughout the island of Viti Levu, including in the capital Suva, due to an unspecified technical malfunction. All homes and businesses on the island were left without electricity for several hours, and traffic lights were not operational. Energy Fiji Limited, the country’s main power supplier, later stated that electricity was fully restored on the island but did not confirm the cause of the outage.

EUROPE

Germany (Security threat level – 3): At approximately 1030 local time (0830 UTC) on 8 June 2022, a motorist drove his car into a crowd in the western Charlottenburg neighborhood of the capital Berlin. Eyewitness reports indicate that the vehicle struck a group of people on a sidewalk along Tauentzienstrasse street before crashing through the window of a storefront. According to a police spokesperson, one person was killed and at least 12 others were wounded. Several of the injured victims are in serious condition. The motorist, a German-Armenian local resident, was detained at the scene. It is currently unknown whether the event was a deliberate act.

MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA

Iran (Security threat level – 3): On 8 June 2022, a passenger train carrying approximately 350 people hit an excavator and derailed near the city of Tabas, located approximately 890 km (550 mi) southeast of the capital Tehran. The train was traveling overnight to the city of Yazd from Mashhad via Tabas at the time of the derailment. At least 21 people were killed and 87 more were injured. The casualty count is expected to rise. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
